PRODUCTS — MODULAR DRILLS
SMT Modular Drill System
The flagship crown drill: interchangeable carbide heads on precision steel bodies — Ø12.5 to 54 mm, standard depths to 12×D, and custom solutions to 25×D and 600 mm total length.
- Ø12.5–54 mm standard range
- Up to 12×D standard · 25×D custom
- T912 shank — 30% more rigidity

One System. Every Material.
The SMT system pairs a precision steel body with interchangeable carbide heads. Swap the head — not the tool — to change diameter, geometry, or grade in seconds.
- Ø12.5–54 mm standard range; custom lengths to 600 mm
- Six groove geometries — PG, GG, MG, PL, PCM, and E — for every material and hole form
- Grades SC3015, SC3010, SC3013, and K10 from steel to aluminum
- T912 face-contact shank: 30% more rigidity than DIN 1835B
Six Groove Geometries. One Body.
PG · Steel — High Feed
GG · General Purpose
MG · Stainless & Superalloys
PL · Centering · 140°
PCM · Pre-Centering
E · Flat Bottom
Coating & Grade Guide
Four carbide grades cover steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous work — pick the grade after the groove.
P — STEEL · HIGH-SPEED
AlCrN nano-composite PVD on fine-grain carbide — very high removal rates and long life in steel.
M — STAINLESS · K — CAST IRON
Si-AlTiN nano-composite PVD — oxidation stability and toughness for stainless and cast iron.
N — ALUMINUM
High-Al AlCrN on a tough fine-grain substrate — built for aluminum.
N — NON-FERROUS · S — HEAT-RESISTANT ALLOYS
Wear-resistant carbide with a sharp edge for non-ferrous and heat-resistant alloys.
Why Machinists Choose SMT
Closed Four-Sided Pocket
The head seats rock-solid in the body — stability where it counts.
One-Wrench Changeover
Swap heads in seconds with a single wrench. No dialing, no re-measuring.
T912 Face-Contact Shank
30% more rigidity than DIN 1835B for straighter, more accurate holes.
Drill + Chamfer in One
Bodies above Ø18 mm can carry an integrated chamfer seat.
Up to 12×D Standard
Deep-hole capability from stock — 25×D and 600 mm on request.
Regrinding Service
Send heads back for regrinding and extend tool life further.

Frequently Asked Questions
Interchangeable carbide heads clamp into precision steel bodies through a closed four-sided pocket. When a head wears, replace only the head — the body stays in the machine.
Six geometries fit the same body: PG for high-feed drilling in steel, GG for low cutting forces and centering accuracy, MG for stainless and high-temperature alloys, PL for 140° centering in steel and cast iron, PCM (four-edge) for pre-centering, and E for flat-bottom holes. Not sure? Tell us your material and we will recommend.
SC3015 (AlCrN-based) for steel at high speeds, SC3010 (AlTiN-based) for stainless and cast iron, SC3013 for aluminum, and K10 for non-ferrous and heat-resistant alloys.
12×D from standard stock (R1–R12). Custom bodies reach 25×D or a 600 mm total length, depending on diameter.
Yes — standard bodies above Ø18 mm can be ordered with an integrated chamfer seat so drilling and chamfering finish in a single pass.
